The letters were sent a few days after Christmas.

"Army personnel officials are contacting those officers' families for erroneously sending the letters," the army said in a brief news release Friday night.
In the meantime, I wonder if they wished the grieving families a "Happy New Year"?

How terrible for those families. i suppose it will be blamed on a computer error or a junior ranking member of staff and nobody will really be held accountable - not that it would help or repair the damage.
Have a wonderful Sunday matey - I'm going to be helping a friend with his English (joy of joys!).
