It's the hypocrisy, stupid!

Cardinal Egan is 'actively homosexual'

A blistering lawsuit filed by a New Jersey priest says the Catholic Church continues to cover up terrible sexual abuse against the littlest Catholics.

Even worse, the hypocritical bishops and even New York’s Cardinal Edward Egan are full-time homosexuals who shield pedophile priests to protect their own reputations, according to the lawsuit.

Father Bob Hoatson, 53, was suspended from his priestly duties in Newark after he uncovered a vast child-abuse ring within the New York and New Jersey churches, the Village Voice reported today. When the brave priest tried to stop the pedophiles, the Catholic Church began a pattern of "retaliation and harassment" against him.

Hoatson filed the suit in federal court in December. It is now pending in Manhattan's U.S. District Court.

The priest says he doesn't care if all the bishops and cardinals are homosexuals. In the lawsuit, he specifically states that "consensual, adult private sexual behavior by these defendants" is not the issue.

The problem, Hoatson says, is that all these powerful church officials are living double lives. If word got out that they were all in serious homosexual relationships with other homosexuals, they would be forced to give up their high positions in the church.

Hoatson's suit says this closeted homosexuality "has compromised defendants' ability to supervise and control predators, and has served as a reason for the retaliation."

Besides Cardinal Egan, Albany bishop Howard Hubbard and Newark archbishop John Myers are specifically named as being "active homosexuals" at the mercy of the pedophile priests who supposedly answer to them.

I'm not sure how to respond to this issue. My gut say be careful of the source - verify the allegations - but my own knowledge of these things leads me to believe that it could be true. I just don't know. Absent real proof, I would give Cardinal Egan et al the benefit of the doubt - at least a little benefit but maybe not too much.

oh do i wish i had some words of wisdom for this one. i'm so frustrated by religious officials and sexual abuse (which happens in protestant churches too) and the constant connection they then make to homosexuality.

one of these days maybe, just maybe it won't matter if a person is gay or straight... all that will matter is how they do their jobs (especially when they are jobs in the church.)

I'm speechless. And you know how rare that is.

Part of me thinks, "It ain't worth it, it just ain't worth it. I never was Catholic. I'm never going to be Catholic."

Then I remember that many of my fellow and sister citizens, including my lifelong close friend "Milhouse", were or are Catholic. And I realize I have to care even if I can't really do or say much about it.

We have to care about the kids. If what the idiots were doing or "being" were only impacting adult lives..I wouldn't care.

Children HAVE to be protected.

Oh, I am so struggling with my religion. It really is the only thing I know but hell, I read things like this and it bothers me so much.
