Make your voices heard. Sound off NOW!

Sound off, moderate christians!

With Samuel Alito on the Supreme Court, it is not just abortion rights that are endangered. Sandra Day O'Connor often joined the liberal wing of the court in keeping church and state separate. Alito won't.

For the last 40 years, the Supreme Court has been the one government institution that could be counted on to run interference when the elected branches tried to substitute the Bible for the Constitution. Under the unified front of Alito, Roberts, Scalia and Thomas, that backstop will wither. Expect the high court to demur more and more when politicians try to insinuate religion into the classroom and the law.

That means that another approach to protecting religious pluralism, the rights of nonbelievers and even science is needed, and it has to come from moderate Christians themselves - those who understand the danger of transforming our land of the free into the land of the Darwin-free.

And those voices need to be raised soon, because the threat of fundamentalism directing government is growing, even as the bulwarks against it are weakening.

I do hope christians take a stand and return to being what they claim to be. Fair, truthful, honest and accepting of their fellow humans.

Yeah, when hell freezes over.

As an American who is not held to anything written in the Bible at all, it concerns me that my government is making the Bible the rule of law. That being said, I may be naive, however, I am going to watch and wait and see what Roberts and Alito do before I jump on the anti-Roberts/Alito bandwagon. Every so often, people surprise us. I remember when C. Everett Koop was appointed Surgeon General. Reagan chose him, in part, because Reagan expected Koop to be mild-mannered and quiet and continue the "don't think about it and it will go away" attitude towards AIDS and other devastating medical crises. Instead, Koop became one of the most outspoken, productive and nonjudgemental Surgeon Generals ever to hold the post. Nearly 20 years later, I still remember the man's name and work. Couldn't tell you who the current one is. So, while I watch the Supreme Court with a wary eye, I feel it is my duty as an American and a citizen who risks being attacked on many fronts (female and non-Christian) to give these men their chances before I simply condemn them outright. Please Goddess...

We need to see it for what it really is, a neurological disorder.

The current administration has created a climate where such is insanity is not only tolerated, it is encouraged and rewarded.

Enough.

Everyone needs to speak out.

The sooner the better.

It amazes me when christians can act the way that they do. I consider myself a christian and don't get how a true christian can vote for the Republicans. Who are we to judge and God didn't put me here to judge anyone, ok, I think I am judging Republicans but I think Jesus would be ok with that....

True "christianity" is a thing of the past. The church has bowed to the Republican agenda and there is no hope of that changing anytime soon. The Republicans know they have nothing to stand on without the "christian" fundamentalists and yes, they're riding the wave for all it's worth. It's a sad, sad situation...but all we can hope for is that these guys on the court will keep church and state separate. I won't hold my breath...

It's really quite ironic when you consider that Jesus was homosexual - oooops - hush my lips! But true......
